A Thanksgiving Tradition. A Community Mission.
The Francis P. O'Connor Memorial Turkey Trot for the Memory brings Shrewsbury together each Thanksgiving to raise awareness and critical funds for Alzheimer’s research and care.
From Family Tradition to Community Impact
Justice Francis P. O'Connor served on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court while remaining active in the Shrewsbury community. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose kindness, optimism, and love remained constant throughout his six-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
For years, the O'Connor family gathered every Thanksgiving morning to walk or run five miles together before celebrating the holiday. Following Justice O'Connor’s passing in 2007, that tradition inspired a community event dedicated to raising awareness and critical funds for Alzheimer’s research and care.
The first Turkey Trot for the Memory was held in 2011.
“If you really want to clear your head and stay as healthy as you can, go out and move—do anything—just do something to move.”
— Justice Francis P. O'Connor
Today, more than 1,000 runners, walkers, families, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters gather each Thanksgiving to advance Alzheimer’s research, honor loved ones, and bring hope to families facing the disease.
Celebrating 15 Years
The 2026 race marks the event’s 15th anniversary and the next chapter in its mission.
